This bill aims to enhance access to acute hospital at home services by mandating that various insurance policies provide coverage and reimbursement equivalent to in-person services for such care. Specifically, it amends multiple chapters of the General Laws, including Chapter 32A, Chapter 175, Chapter 176A, Chapter 176B, Chapter 176G, and Chapter 176I, by inserting new sections that require insurance plans to cover hospital at home services provided by acute care hospitals participating in the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services Acute Hospital Care at Home Program.

The new provisions ensure that active and retired employees of the commonwealth, as well as individuals covered under various accident and sickness insurance policies, hospital service plans, and health maintenance contracts, receive equal reimbursement for hospital at home services. Notably, these amendments exclude contracts providing supplemental coverage to Medicare or other governmental programs, thereby focusing on standard insurance offerings.
