The bill aims to enhance healthcare access for individuals diagnosed with Long COVID by establishing a culturally-specific patient navigation pilot program within the Department of Public Health. This program, which will be developed and implemented subject to appropriation, is designed to reduce barriers to timely medical treatment, provide referrals for clinical and nonclinical support, and facilitate access to necessary medical information and resources. It will also focus on studying diseases associated with Long COVID and improving health equity in care. The department is tasked with creating guidelines to standardize patient navigator care, which may include training to ensure navigators possess the necessary skills and knowledge.

Additionally, the pilot program will encompass various activities such as data collection, patient assessments, and navigation for both clinical and social support needs. It will also establish reimbursement for patient navigator services. A consumer advisory board, primarily composed of individuals living with Long COVID and healthcare providers, may be formed to assist in program development. The department is required to report on the pilot program's activities, patient participation, and recommendations for potential expansion within one year of implementation.
