The proposed bill aims to establish an Orange Star license plate specifically for veterans who have been exposed to Agent Orange during their service in Vietnam. Under this legislation, the registrar will provide these distinctive Orange Star plates free of charge to owners of private passenger motor vehicles or motorcycles who can provide satisfactory evidence of a documented medical condition linked to their service. This initiative is intended to recognize and honor the sacrifices of Vietnam veterans affected by Agent Orange.
Additionally, the bill allows the surviving spouse of a deceased recipient to retain the Orange Star plates for personal use, provided they pay the established registration fee along with an additional annual fee of twenty dollars. This provision remains in effect until the spouse remarries or fails to renew or cancels the registration. It is important to note that while the Orange Star plate serves as a symbol of appreciation for these veterans, it is not classified as an official military medal.
