This bill authorizes the town of Somerset to issue one additional license for the sale of wine and malt beverages for off-premises consumption, specifically to Olde Village Convenience Store located at 2756 County Street. This new license will be granted notwithstanding section 17 of chapter 138 of the General Laws, but will still be subject to the other provisions of chapter 138. The licensing authority is prohibited from transferring this license to another location, although it can be granted to a new applicant at the same location if certain conditions regarding tax and fee compliance are met.
Additionally, if the license is terminated, not renewed, or otherwise becomes inactive, it must be returned to the licensing authority, which can then reissue it to a new applicant at the same location within three years. The bill stipulates that the license must be issued within one year of the act's passage, and if granted within that timeframe, it can be transferred to a new applicant under the specified conditions thereafter. The act will take effect immediately upon passage.
