The Massachusetts Commission on Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Aging (MA LGBT) has been actively engaged in community outreach and policy advocacy throughout 2023 and 2024. In 2023, the Commission held a listening session in New Bedford to gather feedback from LGBTQ+ older adults and their allies, addressing concerns such as safety, housing, and access to LGBTQ+ friendly healthcare. The Commission also focused on advocating for legislation aimed at improving the quality of long-term care for LGBTQ+ individuals, including a significant law signed by Governor Maura Healy in September 2024 that enhances protections for LGBTQ+ older adults in assisted living and long-term care facilities. Additionally, the Commission began the process of changing its name and logo to be more inclusive, transitioning from "LGBT" to "LGBTQ."

In 2024, the Commission celebrated its 10-year anniversary and initiated a strategic planning process to enhance the quality of life for LGBTQ+ older adults over the next five years. This plan includes nine priority areas, such as infrastructure development, healthcare access, and housing support. The Commission also continued to hold listening sessions in various locations to ensure community voices are incorporated into its priorities. With new funding of $75,000 for FY2025 and the addition of new members, the Commission is committed to fostering equitable access to services and advocating for the needs of LGBTQ+ older adults in Massachusetts.
