(accompanied by bill, House, No. 4238) of Angelo J. Puppolo, Jr., and
others (with the approval of the mayor and city council) that the city of
Springfield be authorized to increase the age limit for the appointment of
special police officers in said city, reports recommending that the
accompanying bill (House, No. 4822) ought to pass [Local Approval
Received].

An Act increasing the age limit for the appointment of special police officers in the city of
Springfield.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority
of the same, as follows:
1 SECTION 1. Retired police officers who have been appointed as Special Police Officers
2 within the City of Springfield under the authority provided through Chapter 133 of the Acts of
3 2018, shall not be subject to the same maximum age restrictions as applied to regular police
4 officers in the City of Springfield pursuant to chapter 32 of the General Laws.
5 SECTION 2. Retired police officers who have been appointed as Special Police Officers
6 within the City of Springfield under the authority provided through Chapter 133 of the Acts of
7 2018, shall be subject to a maximum age restriction of seventy (70) years old. No further
8 deductions pursuant to Chapter 32 of the General Laws shall be made from the regular
9 compensation of Special Police Officers appointed under this Act subsequent to their reaching
10 the age of 65.
11 SECTION 3. This act shall take effect upon its passage.
