Senate Resolution No. by Senator Foil urges the Louisiana Department of Health to create the Tumor Registry Expansion and Data Modernization Task Force. This task force is tasked with studying and developing recommendations to enhance the Louisiana Tumor Registry (LTR) by improving electronic health record interoperability, establishing real-time cancer surveillance capabilities, expanding data collection related to cancer, and fostering collaboration among healthcare organizations statewide. The LTR is a vital resource that collects data on all cancer patients diagnosed in Louisiana, but its current data collection methods are outdated and heavily reliant on manual processes, leading to significant delays in data availability.
The task force will consist of eleven members, including representatives from various healthcare and cancer organizations, and will be chaired by a member of the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer. Its responsibilities will include exploring secure access to electronic health records, developing recommendations for data governance and cybersecurity, identifying gaps in cancer care access, and enhancing patient access to clinical trials. The task force is required to submit a report of its findings and recommendations to the Senate Committee on Health and Welfare by February 1, 2027, after which it will be dissolved.
