House Resolution No. ___, introduced by Representative Jordan, establishes the Task Force on Fire Chief Operations to evaluate the role of fire chiefs within the fire and police civil service in Louisiana. The task force aims to create a uniform definition of the fire chief position in state law, recognizing the critical responsibilities that fire chiefs hold in managing fire departments, including fire suppression, emergency medical services, and disaster management. The task force is required to submit a written report of its findings and recommendations to the House of Representatives at least thirty days before the 2027 Regular Session.
The task force will consist of representatives from various organizations, including the House Committees on Municipal, Parochial and Cultural Affairs and Commerce, as well as the Professional Fire Fighters Association of Louisiana, the Police Jury Association of Louisiana, the Louisiana Municipal Association, and the Louisiana Fire Chiefs Association. Members will serve without compensation, except for per diem or expense reimbursements, and the task force will operate under the Open Meetings Law and Public Records Law. The task force is expected to convene by September 1, 2026, and will dissolve upon completing its business or by February 15, 2027, whichever comes first.
