House Resolution No. ___, introduced by Representative Phelps, commends Green Whitaker, Sr. on the occasion of his one hundredth birthday. Born on February 2, 1926, in DeSoto Parish, Louisiana, Mr. Whitaker has lived a remarkable life, witnessing significant historical events and overcoming challenges. He grew up in a large family on a farm, which later transitioned to sharecropping after the discovery of oil on their property led to contamination. Throughout his life, Mr. Whitaker has been an entrepreneur, a dedicated school bus operator for the Caddo Parish School Board, and a successful insurance salesman, all while being a loving father to his four children and a respected community member.
Mr. Whitaker is also known for his long-standing service as a deacon, his involvement in the local gospel music scene, and his commitment to mentoring others, even volunteering as a foster grandparent in his late eighties. As the last surviving member of his family, he is celebrated in Shreveport for his integrity, kindness, and positive influence. The resolution expresses gratitude for his contributions and wishes him continued prosperity and good health as he joins the ranks of Louisiana centenarians.
