House Resolution No. by Representative Chance Henry establishes the Task Force on Utility Terrain Vehicles (UTVs) to examine the feasibility of implementing safety regulations for UTVs, which can reach speeds of over sixty miles per hour and may be legally operated on public roads. The resolution highlights the significant growth of the UTV market, which surpassed ten billion dollars in 2025, and notes the concerning statistic of seventy-eight UTV-related fatalities reported in 2024. The task force is tasked with studying existing laws and regulations regarding UTV operation and will provide recommendations or proposals for legislative action.

The task force will consist of key stakeholders, including representatives from the Louisiana State Police, Louisiana Sheriffs' Association, Louisiana Association of Chiefs of Police, Department of Transportation and Development, Louisiana Highway Safety Commission, Office of Motor Vehicles, and the Department of Insurance. The first meeting is to be held by August 1, 2026, with subsequent meetings occurring every two months. The task force will operate under the Open Meetings Law and Public Records Law, and its findings must be reported to the House Committee on Transportation, Highways and Public Works before the 2027 Regular Session. Members will serve without compensation, aside from potential per diem or expense reimbursements.
