The resolution urges the State Board of Elementary and Secondary Education, in collaboration with the Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, to explore the feasibility of integrating age- and grade-appropriate hunting education, conservation education, and shooting sports courses into the curricula for public school students in grades five through twelve. This initiative is rooted in Louisiana's rich traditions of outdoor recreation and aims to educate youth on responsible firearm use, hunting safety, and conservation practices, potentially reducing firearm-related accidents.

The study will assess various aspects, including the possibility of incorporating hunter education into existing physical education programs or offering it as an elective. It will also evaluate the content of hunting courses, which may cover topics such as firearm safety, wildlife management, and outdoor survival skills, with the goal of providing students with a Hunter Education Certification upon successful completion. A report detailing the findings of this study is to be submitted to the House and Senate Committees on Education by March 1, 2027.
