This bill enacts R.S. 22:1077.6, which mandates that Medicare Advantage plans in Louisiana provide coverage for integrative care services when these services are recommended by nationally recognized clinical practice guidelines and are used in conjunction with the diagnosis, treatment, or management of a covered medical condition. The bill defines "integrative care services" as evidence-based therapeutic modalities, such as acupuncture and cryotherapy, that complement conventional medical treatments. It also clarifies that coverage may be subject to annual deductibles, coinsurance, copayments, and prior authorization requirements set by the Medicare Advantage plan.
The provisions of this Act will apply to any new policy, contract, or health coverage plan issued on or after January 1, 2027, with existing plans required to conform by their renewal date, but no later than January 1, 2028. Additionally, the bill outlines that the commissioner of insurance will be responsible for submitting necessary notifications to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services and promulgating rules to implement the Act, while ensuring compliance with federal law. The Act is set to take effect on January 1, 2027.
