This bill amends Code of Criminal Procedure Article 887(F)(1) to modify the assessment of court costs against defendants convicted of felonies, misdemeanors, or local government ordinances. It introduces a special court cost of three dollars, which will be assessed in addition to existing costs, with a reduced rate of one dollar for mayor's courts in municipalities with populations of one hundred or less according to the most recent federal decennial census. The bill specifies that these special costs will not be suspended and will be allocated for the development of a trial court case management information system and related technology projects, including an integrated juvenile justice information system.

Additionally, the bill establishes the Trial Court Case Management Information Fund, into which the proceeds from the special court costs will be deposited. The fund will be managed by the judicial administrator of the supreme court and will be used solely for the purposes outlined in the bill, including administrative expenses. The bill also allows for potential modifications to the special cost amounts based on inflation, with adjustments to be made in whole increments of fifty cents and capped at four dollars. The act is set to take effect on July 1, 2026.
