This bill amends R.S. 47:532.1(A)(7)(c) and (C) to increase the maximum convenience fee that public license tag agents can charge for providing information on the status of registration privileges and for processing reinstatements of driving and vehicle registration privileges. The maximum convenience fee has been raised from twenty-three dollars to twenty-seven dollars for both services. Additionally, the bill stipulates that these charges must be disclosed to consumers prior to the initiation of the transaction and must be posted conspicuously in the business office of the public license tag agent.

Furthermore, the bill allows public license tag agents to collect this convenience charge in addition to other authorized fees, sales taxes, and transaction fees. The convenience charge is capped at twenty-seven dollars per authorized transaction, and agents are permitted to retain the full amount of this charge. This legislative change aims to provide public license tag agents with the ability to better compensate for their services while ensuring transparency for consumers.
