Senate Bill No. by Senator Edmonds amends the Louisiana Churches and Nonprofit Religious Organizations Self-Insured Fund regulations to expand the scope of self-insurance pools. The bill replaces the term "property coverage" with "commercial coverage" and allows churches and nonprofit organizations to pool their liabilities not only for commercial property insurance but also for other types of risks, pending approval from the commissioner of insurance. This change aims to enhance the financial protection available to these organizations by broadening the types of coverage they can collectively secure.
Additionally, the bill provides a new definition for "commercial coverage," which includes coverage for damage or loss of a member's immovable structures, as well as premises liability, contents coverage, wind and hail coverage, loss of use coverage, and medical payments coverage. The Louisiana State Law Institute is directed to update existing legal language to reflect these changes. The bill will take effect upon the governor's signature or after the designated time for gubernatorial action if not signed.
