House Bill No. 657, introduced by Representative Bryant, designates specific portions of Louisiana Highway 182 with commemorative names. The section in the city of Jeanerette, between Hubertville Road and Canal Street, will be named the "Berwick 'BJ' LeJeune, Jr. Memorial Highway." Additionally, the stretch of Highway 182 between Jeanerette and Sorrel, from Louisiana Highway 671 to Louisiana Highway 318, will be designated as the "Ret. Judge Richard T. 'Dickey' Haik, Sr. Highway."
The bill directs the Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) to erect and maintain signage for these designations, contingent upon receiving local or private funds that cover the actual costs, which are capped at $750 per sign. Notably, an amendment adopted by the House Committee on Transportation, Highways and Public Works removed the word "Memorial" from the name of the "Ret. Judge Richard T. 'Dickey' Haik, Sr. Highway."
