House Bill No. by Representative Newell proposes to enact R.S. 40:1666.1(A)(8), which provides for state supplemental pay for fire protection officers employed full-time by the Lakefront Management Authority. The bill stipulates that these officers will receive an additional $600 per month, on top of their existing compensation from the agency. To qualify for this supplemental pay, fire protection officers must have completed one year of service and, if hired after March 31, 1986, must have also completed a certified fireman's training program that meets specific standards.
The proposed law retains existing provisions that grant similar supplemental pay to fire protection officers employed by various municipalities, parishes, and other political subdivisions, as well as certain tribal authorities. Additionally, it includes a provision that if the supplemental pay amount is increased in the future, the same increase will apply to the officers of the Lakefront Management Authority. The bill will take effect only if a proposed amendment to Article X of the Louisiana Constitution is adopted in a statewide election.
