House Bill No. 89, introduced by Representative Turner, establishes provisions for group health insurance coverage for eligible retired employees of the district attorney's offices in the 3rd and 30th Judicial Districts. The bill mandates that the district attorney's office pay up to 100% of the health insurance premiums for retirees who have served at least 24 years in full-time positions as either an assistant district attorney or an elected district attorney. Additionally, once retirees reach Medicare eligibility, they are required to secure Medicare and pursue a supplemental plan, with the district attorney's office continuing to cover their current health insurance premium or the premium for the supplemental plan that is comparable to their existing coverage.

The bill also defines "years of full-time service" as the number of creditable service years in the District Attorneys' Retirement System. Importantly, the provisions of this act will only apply to district attorneys or assistant district attorneys who retire on or after the effective date of the law. This legislation aims to enhance the benefits available to long-serving employees of the district attorney's offices in these two judicial districts.
