House Bill No. by Representative Knox aims to designate felony hit-and-run driving as a crime of violence in Louisiana. The bill enacts new legal language into R.S. 14:2(B) to include hit-and-run driving punishable under R.S. 14:100(C)(2) or (3) as a crime of violence. Additionally, it amends the Code of Criminal Procedure by adding this offense to the list of crimes for which the waiver of minimum mandatory sentences is prohibited (C.Cr.P. Art. 890.1) and requires that courts designate it as a crime of violence in sentencing records (C.Cr.P. Art. 890.3).
The proposed law retains existing definitions and provisions while incorporating these new elements, thereby enhancing the legal framework surrounding violent crimes in Louisiana. The act will be officially referred to as "The Christina Larsen Act."
