This bill enacts R.S. 15:161.1, which establishes funding provisions for the district public defender in the Nineteenth Judicial District Court, located in East Baton Rouge Parish. It specifies that, in addition to existing funding from the state public defender's office, the district public defender's office is entitled to an expense allowance that covers salaries for public defenders, clerical staff, and other employees, as well as various operational expenses such as transportation, travel, and office supplies.

Furthermore, the bill authorizes the governing authority of East Baton Rouge Parish to allocate a minimum of one million dollars from its general fund to cover these expenses incurred by the district public defender while performing official duties. This funding provision is set to expire on July 1, 2028.
