Senate Bill No. by Senator Price proposes to amend the current law regarding special prestige license plates by changing the name and design of the "State Employee Retired" plate to "RSEA." The bill stipulates that the Department of Public Safety and Corrections will establish this new plate, which will be available for passenger cars, pickup trucks, recreational vehicles, and vans, provided there are at least one thousand applicants. The design will feature the shape of Louisiana and the RSEA logo, with the plate number displayed in consecutive order.
Additionally, the bill modifies the allocation of the $25 fee associated with the license plate. Previously, the fee was directed to the Louisiana State Employees' Retirement System (LASERS) to help pay down the state's unfunded liability. Under the new provisions, this fee will now be redirected to the RSEA Foundation, Inc. The changes are set to take effect on August 1, 2026.
