This bill amends R.S. 11:2178.1(B) concerning the Back-Deferred Retirement Option Plan (Back-DROP) for members of the Sheriffs' Pension and Relief Fund. It introduces a new provision allowing members with at least thirty years but less than thirty-five years of service to select a Back-DROP period of up to forty-eight months, while those with thirty-five or more years of service can choose a period of up to sixty months. The bill specifies that the Back-DROP period must correspond to the member's accrued creditable service and cannot exceed certain limits based on the member's years of service.

Additionally, the bill clarifies that the Back-DROP period is to be specified in whole months and outlines the conditions under which members can select their Back-DROP periods. The effective date of the bill will be upon the governor's signature or, if not signed, upon the expiration of the time for bills to become law without signature. If vetoed and later approved by the legislature, the bill will take effect the day after such approval.
