This resolution honors the late Major General James W. Graves for his extensive contributions and dedicated service in the United States military. Born in Dayton, Ohio, and raised in England, Graves pursued a Bachelor of Arts degree from The College of William and Mary before joining the United States Air Force. He excelled as a pilot, accumulating over 4,000 hours of military flight time and serving in various leadership roles, including reconnaissance pilot, squadron commander, and ultimately as the Assistant to the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff for Reserve Matters. In addition to his military career, he earned a Juris Doctor degree from Louisiana State University and practiced law in Shreveport, Louisiana.
Major General Graves was also a passionate advocate for general aviation in Louisiana, founding the Shreveport Airports Hangar Owners Association to enhance aviation opportunities in the region. Throughout his career, he received numerous awards, including the Air Medal and the Distinguished Service Medal. He passed away on November 12, 2022, leaving behind a legacy of service and dedication, as well as a loving family. The resolution expresses the Louisiana House of Representatives' commendation for his remarkable achievements and commitment to both the state and the nation.
