House Resolution No. [insert number] commends Elmo "Buddy" Sholes, a centenarian and World War II veteran, for his remarkable life and service to the United States. Born on December 26, 1920, in Wilson, Louisiana, Mr. Sholes served in the U.S. Army, where he was stationed in the Philippines and the Pacific Islands, ultimately rising to the rank of corporal. After the war, he married Trogia Eunice Goins in 1943, and they spent over twenty years in Newark, New Jersey, before returning to Louisiana. Although they had no children, they played a significant role in the lives of their nieces and nephews and shared a loving marriage for sixty-six years until Mrs. Sholes' passing in 2009.

In addition to his military service, Mr. Sholes has been a devoted member of the Church of God in Christ in Morganza, Louisiana, for over sixty-five years, holding various leadership positions, including elder, pastor, and superintendent. He currently serves as superintendent emeritus. In recognition of his contributions, he was honored by Governor Jeff Landry with the World War II Coin on May 5, 2025. The resolution expresses the Louisiana House of Representatives' deep appreciation for Mr. Sholes' dedication and service in defending the nation during a pivotal time in history.
