The Louisiana Legislature has adopted a resolution expressing deep condolences on the passing of Robert "Bob" Winfred Merrick, who died on April 28, 2025, at the age of eighty. Merrick, a prominent civic leader and philanthropist from New Orleans, was celebrated for his extensive contributions to the community, including significant donations to various organizations such as the American Red Cross and the University of New Orleans. He was recognized as a generous supporter, being the first in Louisiana to donate over one million dollars to both the United Way of Southeast Louisiana and the American Red Cross. His philanthropic efforts earned him numerous accolades, including the National Red Cross Humanitarian of the Year Award and the Times-Picayune Loving Cup.

In addition to his philanthropic legacy, Merrick was a successful businessman who expanded Latter & Blum, Inc./Realtors into one of the largest real estate firms in the Gulf South. He was known for his vibrant personality, sense of humor, and love for the outdoors, particularly fly fishing and hunting. Merrick is survived by his wife, Sheryl, and several children and grandchildren, all of whom he cherished deeply.
