The resolution honors Sid's remarkable life as a visionary entrepreneur, cultural champion, and community leader, highlighting his significant contributions to the preservation and promotion of Creole and Zydeco music in Louisiana. Born in Saint Martinville, Sid was a dedicated family man, married to Susanna Syner for fifty-three years, and a proud father and grandfather. His legacy includes founding the iconic Elsido's Zydeco and Blues Club, which served as a launching pad for many renowned artists, and leading the Annual Thanksgiving Zydeco Food Drive for over twenty-seven years, earning him the Jefferson Award for Public Service.
In addition to his musical talents as a self-taught accordionist, Sid was actively involved in his community, serving on the Lafayette Parish Tourist Commission and advocating for the region's cultural and economic vitality. His contributions to Louisiana's musical heritage were recognized through numerous awards, culminating in his induction into the Louisiana Music Hall of Fame. The resolution concludes by acknowledging the lasting impact of Sid's generosity, mentorship, and belief in the power of culture, ensuring that his legacy will resonate for generations to come.
