The Senate Resolution commends the Ready Louisiana Coalition, a bipartisan organization established in 2018, which consists of over 180 businesses, chambers, advocacy groups, and early childhood education professionals. The Coalition advocates for increased investment in quality, affordable early care and education in Louisiana, emphasizing that such investments are crucial for preparing students for future success, enhancing workforce productivity, and driving economic growth in local communities. Research highlights the importance of early childhood experiences in brain development, with 90% of brain growth occurring from birth to age four, underscoring the need for accessible early education to ensure long-term positive outcomes in education, health, and social behavior.
In recognition of the Coalition's efforts, the resolution designates May 20, 2025, as Early Ed Day at the Louisiana State Capitol. It acknowledges the current challenges families face regarding the high costs of childcare, which can rival in-state college tuition, and the disproportionate impact on children of color and those living in poverty. The resolution aims to raise awareness about the critical need for quality early childhood education and its implications for the future workforce in Louisiana. A copy of the resolution will be sent to Sadie Becnel, the Government Affairs Director and General Counsel for the Louisiana Policy Institute for Children.
