The House Concurrent Resolution No. by Representative Hughes and Senator Boudreaux establishes the Hazing Prevention Task Force in Louisiana. This task force is tasked with evaluating the effectiveness of the state's anti-hazing laws and the hazing prevention policies and practices implemented in postsecondary education institutions. The resolution highlights the alarming prevalence of hazing incidents among college students, despite existing laws that impose penalties for such actions. The task force aims to address the ongoing challenges related to hazing and improve campus safety through comprehensive evaluations and stakeholder engagement.
The task force will consist of 26 members, including legislators, representatives from law enforcement and higher education, as well as students and faculty from public postsecondary education systems in Louisiana. It will assess current laws and policies, evaluate the consequences for violations, and review best practices from other states. The task force is expected to gather information through student focus groups and will submit a report of its findings and recommendations to relevant legislative committees by January 31, 2026. Non-legislative members will serve without compensation, while student members may receive travel reimbursements as authorized by their institutions.
