This bill amends and reenacts certain provisions of R.S. 44:11.2, which pertains to the protection of personal information for designated "protected individuals." The bill expands the definition of protected individuals to include current or retired district attorneys, assistant district attorneys, district attorney investigators, current members of the legislature, current statewide elected officials, and current members of the public service commission. It also allows these individuals, or their representatives, to request that public bodies or third parties limit access to their personal information. Additionally, the Louisiana District Attorneys Association is granted the authority to certify requests on behalf of its members.

Furthermore, the bill introduces a new provision stating that individuals recognized as protected individuals are not exempt from the publication or removal of their personal information from records publicly posted by the office of the secretary of state. The bill repeals the previous provision R.S. 44:11.2(D) in its entirety. The effective date for this legislation is set for February 1, 2026.
