The Louisiana Legislature has established the Louisiana-Ireland Trade Commission to strengthen commercial ties and promote economic collaboration between Louisiana and Ireland. This initiative recognizes the significant Irish heritage within Louisiana and aims to advance bilateral trade, investment, and policy initiatives that benefit both regions. The commission will also facilitate business and academic exchanges, encourage mutual economic support, and address various issues as determined by its members.

The commission will consist of appointed representatives from various sectors, including the restaurant and oil and gas industries, as well as members from the Senate and House of Representatives, and individuals representing Irish-American communities. Appointments are to be completed by September 1, 2025, with the commission's first meeting scheduled by October 1, 2025. The commission will report its findings and recommendations to the governor and the legislature by March 1, 2026, and will dissolve upon submission of its report or by August 1, 2026, whichever comes first. Members will serve without compensation, except for any entitled per diem or expense reimbursements.
