Senate Bill No. 106, introduced by Senator Lambert, amends the existing law regarding the hunting and taking of frogs at night. The bill maintains the current provisions that allow for the use of jacklights, visible lights, and mechanical devices known as frog catchers, as well as devices that puncture the skin, such as gigs and spears. However, it removes the existing prohibition against carrying or possessing shotguns, rifles, or firearms while hunting or taking frogs during nighttime.
The proposed changes will take effect on August 1, 2025, allowing hunters greater flexibility in their methods while frogging at night. This amendment aims to enhance the hunting experience by permitting the use of firearms, which was previously restricted under the law.
