The bill amends R.S. 40:1227.5 to establish new qualifications for patients to participate in remote patient monitoring services. It replaces the previous requirement for patients to "meet any two" criteria with a mandate that they must have a recommendation from their healthcare provider for disease management services through remote patient monitoring and meet at least one of the specified criteria. The criteria now include being diagnosed with chronic conditions, having a recent history of costly service use due to chronic conditions, being a pregnant or postpartum woman, or being an infant discharged from a hospital after requiring neonatal intensive care.
Additionally, the bill updates the language to reflect current medical terminology, such as changing "Be" to "Has been" for chronic condition diagnoses and "Have" to "Has" for service use history. The effective date of the bill is contingent upon the governor's signature or the expiration of the time for bills to become law without signature. If vetoed and later approved by the legislature, the bill will take effect the day after such approval.
