The bill amends R.S. 40:1227.5 to establish new qualifications for patients to participate in remote patient monitoring services. It specifies that a patient must have a recommendation from their healthcare provider for disease management services through remote patient monitoring and must meet at least one of several criteria. These criteria include being diagnosed with one or more chronic conditions, having a recent history of costly service use due to chronic conditions, being a pregnant or postpartum woman, or being an infant discharged from a hospital after requiring neonatal intensive care.
The bill also updates the language regarding the diagnosis of chronic conditions, changing "Be" to "Has been" and clarifying the list of conditions to include but not be limited to sickle cell disease, mental illness, asthma, diabetes, cancer, and heart disease. Additionally, it removes the previous requirement for patients to meet any two criteria for participation, streamlining the process for qualifying for remote patient monitoring services. The act will take effect upon the governor's signature or after the designated time period if not signed.
