This bill amends R.S. 13:2079.1 concerning the office of the Ward Three marshal of the city court of Lake Charles. It allows the marshal to deposit a portion of his salary, derived from fees and costs collected in civil matters, into a special account controlled by the marshal. The bill authorizes the use of funds from this account to supplement the salaries of deputy marshals, which can now also be compensated from community policing funds, in addition to the local governing authority.
The bill also includes a deletion of the reference to R.S. 33:1704 and replaces it with R.S. 13:5807, ensuring that the marshal's authority to manage these funds is clearly defined. Furthermore, it stipulates that each deputy marshal is responsible for any additional payroll taxes resulting from the supplemental salary, while ensuring that no deputy marshal's salary can exceed that of the Ward Three marshal.
