This bill amends the Code of Criminal Procedure Article 892(C) and enacts R.S. 15:1228.10, focusing on the submission of post-sentence statements and documents related to defendants. It mandates that for defendants convicted of a felony and committed to the Department of Public Safety and Corrections, all required statements and documents must be submitted electronically, as specified in the newly enacted R.S. 15:1228.10. This change aims to streamline the process of transferring criminal justice data and ensure that all necessary documentation accompanies defendants during their transfer to penal or mental institutions.
Additionally, R.S. 15:1228.10 establishes the requirement for criminal justice agencies to submit data electronically through the Integrated Criminal Justice Information System (ICJIS) broker system. The bill outlines the responsibilities of these agencies regarding the accuracy and timeliness of the data submitted, as well as the need to comply with standards set by the ICJIS Policy Board. It also provides for interim practices until the ICJIS broker system is fully operational and includes provisions for agencies that cannot meet the electronic submission requirements to report to the policy board.
