This bill amends the State Police Retirement System by allowing members with at least six months of service credit to purchase credit for out-of-state full-time law enforcement service. The previous requirement of ten years of service credit and the stipulation that membership must begin on or before June 30, 2008, have been removed. Members can purchase this service credit by paying all actuarial costs determined by the retirement system actuary. To initiate the purchase, members must apply to the system's board of trustees and provide necessary employment information, including certification from the relevant retirement systems or agencies confirming the length of employment and lack of duplicative credit.

Additionally, the bill outlines that the cost of purchasing this service credit can be paid in a lump sum or through installment payments, with a maximum payment period of thirty-six months. The funding for this act will come from employee payments, with any additional costs covered by increased employer contributions as required by the Louisiana Constitution. The act will take effect upon the governor's signature or after the designated period for bills to become law without a signature.
