The resolution urges the House Committee on Administration of Criminal Justice, or a subcommittee, to conduct a comprehensive study of brick-and-mortar casino operations in Louisiana. This study aims to gather insights from various stakeholders, including the casino industry and the Louisiana Gaming Control Board, on several key issues affecting the gaming market. These issues include taxation challenges that hinder competitiveness, factors influencing reinvestment decisions by casino operators, and the nature of business relationships between local operators and out-of-state companies. The resolution emphasizes the importance of understanding these dynamics to foster a more favorable environment for investment in Louisiana's gaming sector.
Additionally, the resolution calls for an examination of the feasibility of encouraging capital investment in brick-and-mortar casinos through technological innovations and successful strategies employed in other large gaming markets. The findings from this study are to be reported to the Louisiana Legislature before the 2025 Regular Session, ensuring that lawmakers have the necessary information to make informed decisions regarding the future of casino operations in the state. A print and electronic copy of the report will also be submitted to the David R. Poynter Legislative Research Library as mandated.
