This bill enacts R.S. 37:1275.2, which establishes a framework for the licensure of international medical graduates by the Louisiana State Board of Medical Examiners. The new law allows the board to grant licenses to international medical graduates who meet specific criteria, including holding a medical degree from a recognized international program, being in good standing with their licensing authority, completing relevant post-graduate training, being a U.S. or Canadian citizen or legally residing in the U.S., and having a job offer from a licensed hospital in Louisiana.

Additionally, the bill stipulates that licensed international medical graduates may only provide medical services at a licensed hospital for the first two years of their licensure. After this period, the restriction is lifted. The board is also granted the authority to revoke licenses if there is clear evidence of violations of medical safety or conduct standards. Furthermore, the board is required to create rules and regulations necessary to implement these provisions effectively.
