The Louisiana Legislature has established the Louisiana-Ireland Trade Commission to strengthen commercial ties and promote economic collaboration between Louisiana and Ireland. This initiative recognizes the historical connections between the two regions, particularly the significant Irish-American population in Louisiana, and aims to advance bilateral trade, investment, and academic exchanges. The commission will also address policy issues of mutual interest and encourage infrastructure investment, with a focus on reinventing the economies of both Louisiana and Ireland for the 21st century.

The commission will consist of appointed members from both the Senate and House of Representatives, as well as representatives from public higher education institutions and Irish-American communities. Appointments are to be completed by September 1, 2024, with the first meeting scheduled by October 1, 2024. The commission will report its findings and recommendations to the governor and the legislature by March 1, 2025, and will operate without compensation for its members, except for allowable expenses. The commission will dissolve upon the submission of its report or by August 1, 2025, whichever comes first.
