The Louisiana Legislature has established the Louisiana-Ireland Trade Commission to strengthen commercial ties and promote economic collaboration between Louisiana and Ireland. This initiative recognizes the historical connections between the two regions, particularly the significant Irish-American population in Louisiana, and aims to advance bilateral trade, investment, and policy initiatives. The commission will also facilitate business and academic exchanges and encourage mutual investment in infrastructure.
The commission will consist of members appointed by the Senate, House of Representatives, and the governor, including representatives from higher education and Irish-American communities. It is tasked with meeting as necessary, reporting its findings and recommendations to the governor and legislature, and convening its first meeting by October 1, 2024. The commission will operate without compensation for its members, except for allowable expenses, and will dissolve upon submitting its report or by August 1, 2025, whichever comes first.
