The Louisiana Legislature has established the Louisiana-Ireland Trade Commission to strengthen commercial ties and promote economic collaboration between Louisiana and Ireland. This initiative recognizes the historical connections between the two regions, particularly the significant Irish-American population in Louisiana, and aims to advance bilateral trade, investment, and academic exchanges. The commission will also address policy issues of mutual interest and encourage infrastructure investment, with a focus on reinventing the economies of both Louisiana and Ireland for the 21st century.

The commission will consist of members appointed by the Senate, House of Representatives, and the governor, including representatives from higher education and Irish-American communities. Appointments must be completed by September 1, 2024, and the commission is required to meet as necessary, reporting its findings and recommendations to the governor and the legislature by March 1, 2025. The commission will convene its first meeting by October 1, 2024, and will operate without compensation, except for allowable expenses. It will dissolve upon submitting its report or by August 1, 2025, whichever comes first.
