RÉSUMÉ DIGEST
ACT 477 (HB 927) 2024 Regular Session Selders
Prior law prohibited parish and municipal governing authorities from requiring any person,
who held an account with an authorized utility provider and whose account was being
charged by the provider for electric services provided to a dwelling to acquire a permit to
change the name of the person listed as the account holder.
New law removes prior law and instead provides that if a person who holds an account with
an authorized utility provider that is being charged by the provider for electric services
provided to a dwelling transfers the account to another person, the parish or municipal
governing authority is prohibited from requiring the new account holder to acquire a permit
to continue electric services provided to the dwelling.
Effective August 1, 2024.
