This bill enacts a new section, R.S. 13:3049.2, to establish a two-year pilot program in the Nineteenth Judicial District Court that allows jurors to voluntarily donate their per diem compensation to specific organizations. Jurors can choose to donate their compensation to organizations recognized under the Children's Code for advocating for abused and neglected children or to the Capital Area Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA). The clerk of court will provide jurors with the option to donate during orientation or at another appropriate time, ensuring that the process is voluntary and that jurors give informed consent.

Additionally, the bill outlines procedures for the collection and distribution of the donated funds, including donor acknowledgment and compliance with financial management standards. The Nineteenth Judicial District Court Jury Office will facilitate the consolidation of individual juror donations into a monthly payment to CASA, which will also receive a list of participating jurors for tax-deductible receipt purposes. Importantly, the information shared with CASA will remain confidential and exempt from public records disclosure. The bill designates CASA exclusively for donations during the pilot program, ensuring that the funds are used solely to support its mission within the district.
