New law requires that the Dept. of Public Safety and Corrections, office of motor vehicles,
issue a special prestige license plate to be known as the "Jefferson Parish Bicentennial"
license plate, provided that there is a minimum of 1,000 applicants for such plates.
New law specifies that the plate is restricted to use on passenger cars, pickup trucks,
recreational vehicles, motorcycles, and vans.
New law requires the secretary work in conjunction with the governing authority of Jefferson
Parish to select the color and design of the plate. Requires the design include the words
"Jefferson Parish Bicentennial".
New law specifies that the plate will be issued, upon application, to any citizen of the state
in the same manner as any other motor vehicle license plate.
New law requires that the department collect an annual fee of $25 in addition to the standard
motor vehicle license tax imposed in existing law and a handling fee of $3.50 for each plate
to be retained by the department to offset a portion of administrative costs.
New law requires monies received from royalty fees be forwarded to Jefferson Community
Foundation. Specifies that the monies received from the royalty fee be used for public
purposes, such as the planning and development of a series of cultural events and activities
surrounding the Bicentennial of Jefferson Parish.
New law requires the secretary promulgate and adopt rules and regulations as are necessary
to implement the provisions of new law.
Directs the Dept. of Public Safety and Corrections, office of motor vehicles, to create the
special prestige license plate when the applicable statutory provisions are met and its system
is updated to accommodate the creation of new plates.
Effective August 1, 2024.
