EXPENDITURE EXPLANATION
There is no anticipated direct material effect on governmental expenditures as a result of this measure. The proposed law
repeals the sunset provision of the Sledge Jeansonne LA Insurance Fraud Prevention Act; thereby making the Act
permanent.
The Sledge Jeansonne Act empowered the Office of the Attorney General to pursue civil actions, including monetary
penalties, liquidated, and other remedies to protect the integrity of the insurance industry from persons engaged in fraud,
misrepresentation, abuse, or other illegal practices. In FY 23, the Attorney General utilized $631,965 in revenue from the
Sledge Jeansonne Act for anti-fraud activities. If the Sledge Jeansonne Act sunsets, those anti-fraud activities will no longer
be available without a replacement funding mechanism. Extending Act permanent will likewise continue the availability of
SGR funding for this purpose.
REVENUE EXPLANATION
There is no anticipated direct material effect on governmental revenues as a result of this measure.
