This bill amends R.S. 13:964(H) to revise the fee structure for court reporters in the Fourteenth Judicial District Court. The previous language, which specified a fee of three dollars and twenty-five cents per page for originals and seventy-five cents per page for copies only for cases reported and transcribed for appeal, has been removed. Instead, the bill allows a majority of the judges to determine the fee for the transcription of each page of all testimony reported and transcribed, as well as the fee per copy of each page of transcribed testimony. Additionally, the provisions now extend to cases that are reported but not transcribed, ensuring that fees are applicable in a broader range of circumstances.
Furthermore, the bill stipulates that the fees charged will be retained by the court reporter as compensation, in addition to their salary, and will be taxed as costs of the suit. Importantly, the implementation of these changes in court costs or fees is contingent upon a recommendation from the Judicial Council, which must confirm that the fees meet applicable guidelines before they can be imposed or collected.
