New law provides that the board shall be comprised of the following members appointed by

Prior law included all of the following with respect to tradesman plumbers and the
tradesman plumber limited license:
(1) Required any person engaged in the duties of a tradesman plumber to possess a
tradesman plumber limited license. (R.S. 37:1366(A)(1))

without a license. (R.S. 37:1367(A)(1))

New law changes the tradesman plumber limited license to the residential plumber limited

limited".
Prior law (R.S. 37:1367(A)(1)) provided that a tradesman plumber may independently repair
existing plumbing of one- and two-family dwellings without supervision.
New law provides that a residential plumber limited may independently install, alter, repair,
and maintain plumbing in one- and two-family dwellings without supervision.
Existing law (R.S. 37:1377(B)(1)) defines "journeyman plumber" as a person who possesses
the necessary qualifications and knowledge to install, alter, or repair plumbing systems.
New law adds that a journeyman plumber possesses the necessary qualifications to maintain
plumbing systems.
Prior law (R.S. 37:1377(B)(2)) defined "tradesman plumber" as a natural person who
possesses the necessary qualifications and knowledge to repair existing plumbing systems.
New law changes "tradesman plumber" to "residential plumber limited" and provides that
a residential plumber limited is a natural person who possesses the necessary qualifications
and knowledge to install, alter, repair, and maintain plumbing systems.
Effective August 1, 2024.
