Provides relative to imported seafood safety fees
Present law requires the Louisiana Department of Health (LDH), Office of Public Health (OPH) to charge and collect an imported seafood
safety fee of $100 from each holder of a commercial seafood permit who sells imported seafood and deposit the fee revenues into the
Imported Seafood Safety Fund. Proposed law provides that the imported seafood safety fee shall be collected by the Department of
Culture, Recreation, and Tourism (DCRT). Proposed law provides that the amount of the imported seafood safety fee shall be $300 in
2025, $500 in 2026, $750 in 2027, and $1,000 in 2028 and each year thereafter.

EXPENDITURE EXPLANATION
The Department of Culture, Recreation, and Tourism (DCRT) reports it will incur increased expenses to levy and collect the imported
seafood safety fee from processors and distributors of imported seafood and deposit the funds in the Imported Seafood Safety Fund. The
amount of this increase is indeterminable and will depend upon the effort expended to collect the fee and the number of processors and
distributors of imported seafood. For informational purposes, the Louisiana Department of Health (LDH) reports that there are currently 53
imported commercial seafood license holders.
REVENUE EXPLANATION
Proposed law will result in increased revenues to the Imported Seafood Safety Fund. Proposed law sets the imported seafood safety fee at
$300 in 2025, $500 in 2026, $750 in 2027, and $1,000 in 2028 and each year thereafter.
The Louisiana Department of Health (LDH) reports that there are currently 53 holders of an imported commercial seafood license. The
table below shows the expected fee revenues per year for an assumed 53 imported commercial seafood license holders.
