SUPPLEMENTAL PAY EN +$86,400 GF EX See Note Page 1 of 1
Provides for supplemental pay for fire protection officers of the Port of South Louisiana. (7/1/24)
Present law authorizes supplementary pay of $600 per month for any regularly employed firefighter by any municipality,
parish, fire protection district or other political subdivision maintaining a fire department or by the Chitimacha Tribe of La. or
Coushatta Tribe of La., or any nonprofit corporation contracting with any political subdivision and has completed one year of
service. Further authorizes supplemental pay for certain full-time firefighters with the New Orleans port authority and the
Plaquemines Port Harbor and Terminal District. Proposed law retains present law but adds full-time fire protection officers of
the Port of South Louisiana to the list of fire protection officers authorized to receive supplemental pay of $600 per month. If
supplemental pay is increased for other fire protection officers as provided in present law, then supplemental pay shall also
increase for fire protection officers of the Port of South Louisiana.

EXPENDITURE EXPLANATION
Proposed law will increase state expenditures by a maximum of $86,400 SGF as a result of adding Port of South Louisiana
fire protection officers to the list of public employees that receive state supplemental pay. Each eligible fire protection officer
would receive $600 per month or $7,200 annually ($600 per month x 12 months). In FY 25, there are 12 full-time fire
protection officers employed by the Port of South Louisiana. Under the proposed law, if all 12 fire protection officers are
eligible to receive supplemental pay, the cost would be $86,400 annually (12 officers x $7,200).
Proposed law will increase Local Funds expenditures by an indeterminable amount as state supplemental payments are
included in the pensionable earnings used in the calculation of retirement benefits.
REVENUE EXPLANATION
There is no anticipated direct material effect on governmental revenues as a result of this measure.
