The bill enacts a new provision under R.S. 40:1666.1(A)(7) to establish eligibility criteria for supplemental pay for fire protection officers employed full-time by the Port of South Louisiana. These officers will receive an additional $600 per month, funded by the state, on top of their existing compensation from self-generated revenue. To qualify for this extra compensation, officers must have completed at least one year of service and, for those hired after March 31, 1986, must also have successfully completed a certified fireman's training program that meets specific national or state standards.
Additionally, the bill stipulates that if there is an increase in supplemental pay as outlined in R.S. 40:1666.1(A)(1), the same increase will apply to the fire protection officers covered under this new provision. The act is set to take effect on July 1, 2024.
