Provides relative to educational programs provided by correctional facilities. (gov sig)
Current law provides that the Department of Public Safety & Corrections (DPS&C) must establish programs of classification
and diagnosis, education, casework, counseling, psychotherapy, vocational training and guidance, work, library, and
religious services, and such other rehabilitation programs as are consistent with available resources. Proposed law adds to
current law by providing that, at minimum, each DPS&C adult detention facility must offer a general education development
(GED) test training program and at least one vocational training program as optional programs for inmates; provides that a
DPS&C adult detention facility may comply with the proposed law by participating in the Prison Rehabilitation Pilot Program,
the Transitional Residential Pilot Program, or a regional reentry program that provides both services.

EXPENDITURE EXPLANATION
There is no anticipated direct material effect on governmental expenditures as a result of this measure. The Department of
Public Safety & Corrections - Corrections Services (DPS&C-CS) reports that the services contemplated within the proposed
law are all services currently available to adults incarcerated within DPS&C-CS detention facilities.
REVENUE EXPLANATION
There is no anticipated direct material effect on governmental revenues as a result of this measure.
