New law defines a "combustion engine vehicle" as the component of a motor vehicle that
converts the chemical energy in fuel into mechanical energy for power.
New law prohibits state agencies from restricting the use or sale of a motor vehicle based on
the energy source used to power the motor vehicle, inclusive of the energy source used for
propulsion or use of powering other functions of the motor vehicle.
New law prohibits a state agency from limiting or prohibiting the sale or use of new motor
vehicles with internal combustion engines.
New law specifies that any air quality challenges related to the La. Air Pollutant Emission
Control Program cannot restrict a La. citizen's ability to purchase any vehicle.
Effective August 1, 2024.
