ACT 563 (HB 494) 2024 Regular Session Willard
Existing law authorizes La. residents to obtain a special identification card from the office
of motor vehicles and for the identifying information and documents to obtain the special
identification card to be the same as those for obtaining a La. driver's license.
Existing law specifies that applicants who are 17 years old do not need the signature of a
custodial parent or guardian provided the applicant has the necessary identifying information
and documents.
New law expands the provision to include 14 to 16 year olds accompanied by a person over
the age of 21 with whom they live or a person over the age of 21 who works for an agency
that assists children under the age of 18 who can sign in lieu of a parent or guardian provided
the applicant has the required identification and documents and is not requesting a REAL ID.
Effective January 1, 2025.
