RÉSUMÉ DIGEST
ACT 473 (HB 474) 2024 Regular Session Coates
Existing law authorizes the secretary of the Dept. of Environmental Quality to administer the
La. Pollutant Discharge Elimination System program under the federal Clean Water Act,
which includes the authority to promulgate rules and issue permits for the discharge of
pollutants into the waters of the state, including wetland assimilation projects that discharge
treated wastewater into wetlands.
New law directs the secretary to require all permit holders for wetland assimilation projects
to post warning signs around wetlands where wastewater is discharged and at the entrances
to any wildlife management areas that contain wetlands where wastewater is discharged.
New law requires the signs to state "Warning: Treated Wastewater Discharge".
Effective August 1, 2024.
